This section covers liquid and semi-solid material, rather than only wastewater-treatment cake. First identify its source, oil content, chemistry and dry-solids load, then select the receiving, pumping, separation, dewatering and downstream treatment. Each source family opens its own engineering route.
Liquid, thickened or dewatered organic sludge from verified livestock, slaughterhouse and food-plant processes and wastewater treatment. Specify its actual source, solids, moisture, oil and contamination. Source-separated animal by-products and clean food residues retain their own agricultural or organic-by-product routes.

Primary sludge, waste activated sludge and digested sludge from municipal sewage-treatment plants. It is kept separate from livestock/slaughterhouse sludge and from industrial or oily sludge.

Open This Sludge CategoryPumpable process slurry, chemical sludge, precipitation sludge, settled suspensions and related dewatered cake from verified industrial sources. Source, liquid content, solids, chemistry and compatibility determine the route. Solid slag, dry dust and unrelated industrial solids retain their own industrial-waste classification.

Tank-bottom sludge, separator sludge, API/CPI sludge and other oil-water-solid sludge from petroleum storage, refining or oil-handling systems. Waste lubricating oil is a separate liquid-waste category.
